Tower Defense Layouts: The Shapes That Actually Win

April 18, 2026 · Markus Feldmann

Most tower defense losses I've watched come down to one mistake: spreading towers evenly across the map. Even coverage feels safe, but it means nothing fires at full value. The fix is thinking about shape before damage.

The single best trick is the chokepoint stack. Find the longest stretch of path and pile your slow and poison towers at the entrance, then put raw damage right after. Enemies walk into the slow, get stacked up, and your damage towers hit a traffic jam instead of a moving target.

Corners are free value. A tower on the inside of a hairpin turn can hit the same enemy on the way in and the way out, effectively doubling its range for that stretch. Always scan the map for these before placing anything.

Finally, leave a gold buffer. Starting each wave with zero saved resources means you can't react when a boss cracks your line. I keep enough for one emergency tower at all times. It's saved more runs than any specific build I could name.
