Upgrade Or Expand? The Strategy Question That Decides Your Run
Nearly every strategy game eventually asks the same thing: do I make what I have stronger, or build more of it? Players who answer this wrong tend to stall in the mid-game and never know why.
My rule is simple. Upgrade when your current units can almost handle the next threat and just need a push. Expand when they can't scratch it at all. Throwing a second mediocre tower at a boss rarely helps; upgrading one into something that actually pierces armor does.
There's a timing layer too. Early game favors expansion — you need coverage and bodies. Late game almost always favors upgrades, because map space runs out and enemies scale faster than your count ever could.
Watch your bottleneck. If enemies are leaking because of raw damage, upgrade. If they're leaking because something slips past an unguarded lane, expand. Diagnosing which one is killing you is the whole skill.
